Top 5 Trauma Shears for EMTs and Paramedics

Robin Safety Boy Trauma Shears

The Robin Safety Boy Trauma Shears are my favorite trauma shears.  They sit on the side of my work bag.   What I love about the Robin Safety Boy Trauma Shears is that they are big and can cut through anything.  As a ski patroller I am often confronted with large, bulky clothing and these cut through them like butter!  These are also great for motorcycle injuries or horse related injuries when you need to cut through leather.  The Robin Safety Boy Trauma Shears can also be used to punch through a window.

Leatherman Raptors

The Leatherman Raptors are essentially an EMS multitool!  They fold up to be really small and can be easily placed in a pocket or bag.  Don’t let the small size fool you though; being a multi tool these trauma shears are equipped with an oxygen wrench, ruler, window punch, seat belt cutter, and my all-time favorite tool: the ring cutter.  Yes, these come with a ring cutter!  The Leatherman Raptor also comes with a belt holder that can hold the trauma shears in the folded or unfolded position.

MEUUT 8 inch Trauma Shears

The MEUUT 8 inch Trauma Shears are a nice pair of large trauma shears, with a comfortable handle, that also has an oxygen wrench on it.

The Cheapest Ones You Can Buy: Large

I always recommend having a cheap set of trauma shears around.  The ones listed above are expensive so I recommend keeping a cheap pair around incase you need to lend them out.

The Cheapest Ones You Can Buy: Small

I particularly like the smaller trauma shears.  I keep a pair in my ski patrol vest because of their light weight.
